My name is Yash and I love to play chess. On this blog I will be posting about all of the chess tournaments I go to. I have lots of fun playing chess in tournaments around the state. First though you have to know how chess tournaments work. If you already know that's great! We will find out how scholastic works in the next post.

Throughout your chess career you will not go one day without thinking of ratings... Ratings, Ratings, and Ratings. Rating is one of the most common chess terminology. In Part 2 of How does OTB chess work we are going to look at ratings. By: Yash B Ratings according to Wikipedia are defined as so: Chess rating system. A chess rating system is a system used in chess to calculate an estimate of the strength of the player, based on his or her performance versus other players. Wow. Wikipedia can be quite descriptive sometimes. To elaborate you have to pay a chess federation like United States Chess Federation Fédération Internationale des Échecs Or World Chess Federation (commonly know as FIDE) You can have both a FIDE and USCF membership. Many top player are part of at least 10 federations due to all of their tournaments around the globe. Part 1 How Does Over The Board Chess Work? By: Yash B Welcome back to my blog! In this part I will be teaching all of you how the types of tournaments you can join.  To get started you will have to know the types of tournaments. Scholastic Chess Tournaments This will be the kind of tournament I will be talking the most about. In these tournaments adults are not allowed. The are often in formats like 4-8 grades play in one section while 9-12 play in another section. Basically you chose your section by your grade. These tournaments are not too hard to win. Open Tournaments Open Tournaments are often very large. They are open to everyone. Age or rating does not matter. We will get to ratings later. Reserve Tournaments Reserve Tournaments are not reserved for certain people. They are reserved by your rating. They have sections to play in. the higher your rating is the higher section you play in. Invite only Tournaments Invite only tournaments are freq
